Our coaches at Worsley Swimming Club are all fully qualified, enthusiastic and dedicated to their roles.

All of the coaches are ex-competitive swimmers for either Worsley Swimming Club, Salford Swimming Club or both, and therefore can fully relate to the swimmers whilst putting their first-hand knowledge and expertise into practice. Our coaches are also CRB checked and attend regular courses to enhance their knowledge further, including safeguarding, equity and teaching children with disabilities. Abbie Lockitt (Head Coach)

Qualification: ASA/UKCC Teaching Aquatics Level 2, 1st Class BSc (Hons) Key Stage 2/3 Education QTS 

Abbie has been a member of the Worsley ASC coaching staff for over 2 years now, and took over from Alison as Head Coach in September 2009. She works mainly with the advanced swimmers in the large pool but also teaches the beginners on a Monday night.

Abbie is qualified as a Level 2 swimming teacher and also holds her National Pool Lifeguard Qualification. As well as her teaching and coaching role with Worsley ASC, Abbie also studies Key Stage 2/3 Education with Art and Design at Edge Hill University with aspirations of becoming a Primary School Teacher once she has graduated. She also has strong links with the City of Salford Swimming Scheme as a cover coach across the levels and teaches classes in the 'learn to swim' programme for Salford Community Leisure.

Abbie swam competitively for the Salford Swimming Scheme and Worsley ASC up until she was 16 years of age. She represented Salford and the North West at National level as an individual and as part of the 4 x 100 FC team. As an ex-competitive swimmer, Abbie thoroughly enjoys giving back to the Sport through coaching for Worsley. She loves helping the children to achieve their personal, unique goals, be it to keep fit and have fun with swimming or to compete at a high level of competition and achieve the best result possible. She enjoys finding new training methods integrating fun, different, beneficial activites to make swimming more enjoyable and more suited to different levels of ability.

Becky Rumbelow

Qualification: ASA/UKCC Teaching Aquatics Level 1

Becky is our newest member of the coaching team. Having initially joined at the end of 2011 as a pool assistant working with the beginners, she now also teaches and coaches across all of the three levels. Becky has obtained her ASA Level 1 swimming teacher's qualification and is looking towards obtaining her Level 2 qualification in the near future. Becky is enthusiastic in transferring her skills as a competitive swimmer into her teaching and is also able to develop fun and creative lessons through her skills developed through studying Art and Design BTEC at college.

Claire Gorvett

Qualification: ASA/UKCC Teaching Aquatics Level 2 

Claire is an ASA Level 2 qualified swimming teacher with the permanent role of teaching the adult swim sessions on Thursday evenings. Claire has a wealth of experience in swimming teaching and has been a coach at Worsley for a number of years now. She is also the Lead Swimming Teacher at Fit City Worsley Pool for Salford Community Leisure. Claire has two sons and is also the daughter of our competition manager Bob Thorpe.

Kim Rumbelow

Qualification: ASA/UKCC Teaching Aquatics Level 2 

Kim is an ASA Level 2 qualified swimming teacher who joined our coaching staff at the end of 2010. Having gained teaching experience through Salford Community Leisure, she has now taken on a large role within our club and teaches across the medium pool and the large pool across the week. Kim was also a successful swimmer at Salford Swimming Club until recently, where she specialised in butterfly swimming and frontcrawl. Kim's coaching style focussing mostly on fitness and stamina building, and she allows her swimmers to gain a sense of the competitive side of the sport through fun and challenging sets and games.

Lauren McCann

Qualification: ASA/UKCC Teaching Aquatics Level 2, 2:1 BA (Hons) French and English, PGCE Primary Education

Lauren is qualified as an ASA level 2 swimming teacher and has been teaching and coaching within the club for over 2 years. Her coaching time is split between the large pool and the small pool where she coaches a range of abilities from beginner to advanced.

Lauren obtained a 2-1 level degree in Literature and French Studies from Manchester University in 2009 and her PGCE at Manchester Metropolitan University. She now works as a full time Primary School Teacher in Sale.

Lauren loves working with children and has gained a lot of experience in this after completing over 2 months at Camp America and through teaching for SCL and David Lloyd.

Kiera Hall

Qualification: ASA/UKCC Coaching Swimming Level 2

Kiera is a new member of our coaching staff having recently obtained her ASA Level 2 Coaching qualification in 2011. Kiera now works across the medium pool and the large pool where she is able to translate her knowledge developed as a competitive swimmer for Worsley and Salford Swimming Club into technique and stroke development. Kiera is studying towards her A Levels at Pendleton College currently and hopes to go on to study at University in the next academic year.

Philly Lockitt

Qualification: ASA/UKCC Teaching Aquatics Level 1

Philly Lockitt has been coaching for Worsley ASC for two years, beginning on a voluntary basis until she obtained her Level 1 ASC Teaching Aquatics qualification in 2009.

Philly works both in the large and the small pools, teaching children of all age and ability levels, but specifically focussing on intermediate level and beginner level swimmers.

Alongside her role here at Worsley, Philly also studies Journalism at Media City through Salford University. She won a Pendleton College oscar within her AS Level studies last year and has also been nominated for 2 more oscars this coming year. 

Philly also works part time as a sales assistant for TopShop in the Trafford Centre.

James Hulse

Qualification: ASA/UKCC Teaching Aquatics Level 1, 1st Class (BSc) Hons Human Biology

James is a new member of our coaching staff having recently achieved his ASA Level 1 certified swimming teacher's qualification. James swam very successfully for both Worsley and Salford Swimming Club up to the age of 19 as a specialist breastroke swimmer. These skills have now been transferred into coaching the advanced swimmers in the large pool, working on stamina and fitness and higher level technical aspects with swimmers looking to compete in competitions. James is also studying human biology at Salford University.
