AGM and Fundraiser

Posted by Abbie Lockitt on January 29, 2014 at 3:35 PM Comments comments (0)

With a number of important club events just around the corner, we are now making you aware of some very useful 'dates for your diary'.

Race Night (Saturday 1st Feb 2014 - 7pm)

As you may be aware, on Saturday 1st February 2014 at 7pm we will host our very first club fundraiser event, taking the form of a Race Night! This evening has been designed by our very own fundraising represetative Mike Edwards, who has done a wonderful job of organising a superb evening of entertainment.

There are still a limited number of tickets available for £1.00 which you can purchase on Friday evening at training. Please come along and support your club if you can, we guarentee a fun-filled night! Hope to see you there.

AGM (Wednesday 5th Feb 2014 - 7pm)

Secondly, our Annual General Meeting is approaching very soon, which is an open meeting organised by the committee where important club matters are discussed, thinking ahead to the coming year.

This year, our AGM will take place on Wednesday 5th February at the Walkden Royal British Legion, from 7pm.

All parents/members are advised to attend, as some of the topics/issues raised may be relevant to you and are vital to how the club continues to run in 2014. In order for fair and thorough decisions to be made, we want every member's opinion to be heard and raised. Any changes we make at the AGM are very likely to be discussed and debated further at later dates, and therefore if you want your opinions to be considered you must try and attend the meeting.

Please also note that due to the resignation of our Team Manager and Communications Officer Vicky Anderson, we are now seeking a replacement who could potentially fill one or both of these vital roles on the committee. If you, or anyone you know may be interested, please let me know by return email or in person. I especially would be very greatful for your support, as I have now taken over these roles temporarily, which is proving very challenging alongside the role of Head Coach and my full time job as a school teacher!

I thank you again for your continued support, and I hope to see you very soon,

Many thanks,

Abbie Lockitt

As it will be a long day, we thought that it'd be best to book a meal before the gala starts as we imagine our children will be very hungry by 4pm being swimmers and all!

We have managed to book 3 tables for 10 people at Pizza Hut (10 mins walk away from Ponds Forge Leisure Centre) for 3.45pm. The kids menu is £3.99 per head (main meal (pizza, pasta or chicken strips) and a drink), so we would like to ask that all children coming along without an adult bring along at least £5.00 spending money for their food. We anticipate that an adults meal (sharing large pizzas) would cost around £7 a head.

I will collect the food money for the kids travelling without their parents at Piccadilly and keep it safe! If you have any problems with this arrangement please let me know.

We will provide a soft drink for all children attending and some snacks for the train.

Outline of the day:

2.15pm: Meet at Piccadilly train station just inside the main entrance. If children are travelling without adults, hand £5.00 food money to Abbie or Vicky.

2.30pm: Walk to the train platform and wait for the train. Board train when it arrives.

2.43pm: Train leaves for Sheffield. Drinks and snacks provided on the train.

3.30pm: Arrive in Sheffield. Short toilet break then 10 minute walk to Pizza Hut. (Walking ratio 1 adult for every 2 children)

3.45pm: Arrive at Pizza Hut and enjoy a nice meal before the gala.

5.10pm: Leave Pizza Hut and walk to the pool (10 minutes).

5.20pm: Arrive at Ponds Forge Leisure Centre. Take seats ready for the finals.

5.40pm: Finals session begins.

7.30pm: Finals session finishes. Meet and greet with Michael Rock and a few other of the Olympic Athletes.

7.50pm: Leave the pool and set off to the train station (5 minute walk)

8.00pm: Arrive at the train station. Quick chill out in the cafe before boarding the train.

8.15pm: Walk to the train platform and wait for the train. Board train when it arrives.

8.30pm: Train departs for Manchester Piccadilly.

9.30pm: Arrive back at Manchester Piccadilly. Walk back to main entrance and wait for parents to collect.

If you are sending your child on their own, please save my number into your mobile: 07545838566. I will make sure that all contact details for parents are saved into my phone.

If you have any problems or questions about the day please let me know.

Many thanks

Road Trip to Sheffield!!

Posted by Abbie Lockitt on June 13, 2013 at 3:40 PM Comments comments (0)

As you may or may not know, the top British swimmers are soon to be taking part in the British Gas Swimming Championships, which will double up as the qualifying trials for the 2013 World Championships in Barcelona.

The trials are taking place between 26th and 30th June in Sheffield, and Worsley have identified a unique opportunity to be able to take a group of swimmers down to watch the evening session on Saturday 29th June.

We thought that it'd be a wonderful opportunity to take a group of young swimmers down to watch some of the country's best swimmers and their heroes in action.

The Saturday evening session is one of the most exciting evenings of the whole event, with Olympians Michael Rock, Michael Jamieson, Hannah Miley, Lizzie Simmonds, Ellie Simmonds, Siobhan O'Connor, James Goddard, Adam Brown and Francesca Halsall all competing for a place in the World Champs.

We would welcome children aged 9 and over (with or without their parents) to travel down to Sheffield with us by train at approximately 3.30pm from Manchester Piccadily train station. We would arrive at Sheffield for around 4.30pm and head down to the pool and grab some food in the cafe or at a nearby Pizza Hut. We would then arrive on the spectators gallery at Ponds Forge before 5.40pm in time for the finals and watch the finals until 7.45pm. We would then head back to the train station to board the 8.30pm train and arrive back at Manchester Piccadilly for 9.30pm to be collected by parents.

We have looked at prices, and at the moment, we have identified costs for return train tickets and the competition ticket at under £15 per child!

Prices as they stand at the moment:

£4.50: Return Train Ticket

£9.50: Gala Ticket

Total: £14.00

£9.00: Return Train Ticket

£11.55: Gala Ticket

Total: £20.55

If you would be interested in coming along with us, or if your child would be interested in coming along on their own, please can you let me know by return email ASAP (by tomorrow night at the latest). Sorry about the quick turn around, but as the event is fast approaching and we have only just found out about this opportunity we need to start planning ASAP!

Once I have finalised the numbers, I will send out another email to let you know that the trip will be going ahead. We would then need to collect payments by Tuesday 18th at the latest to ensure that we can book the tickets before they run out and before the train prices go up.

Thanks very much,

Don't forget to reply to if you are interested, including the total numbers from your family.
