The Marlins are the group where we see many swimmers really start to develop into the sport. Swimmers in this group are usually aged between 11 - 13 years of age, and by this stage have usually developed a great love for swimming and have a clear idea about what they want to gain from the sport.

Like in the Penguins, this group work hard and stamina training is a key focus. However as the children are slightly older, the coaches can start to work with the children to develop their individuals talents for certain strokes, by including sets where children will work on their favourite or best stroke, refining the technique and beginning to record times for certain numbers of lengths. The coaches will also include test sets, such as 8 x 50 max, which is done once every few months in order to monitor progress throughout the year, and to give children their own individual goals. Children also begin to incorporate land training into their programme, by routine stretching and warm ups on the poolside before their session.

Many of the swimmers in this group enjoy competing in our regular swimming galas once every few months, but many of the swimmers just enjoy swimming for fitness, so this group is tailored to cater for the needs of both groups of swimmers.
